The Big Life

There was a rare event this week. The whole Nestor Clan went out together to the theatre to see the fabulous Big Life at one of my spiritual homes, Theatre Royal Stratford East.

I have so much history there.  Variety nights, d’jaying, acting and most exhaustingly panto.   That’s where  (more years ago than I care to remember) The Posse went to ask the then Artistic Director if he would give us a night to commemorate the death of an out of work actor called Calvin Simpson. He asked what we were going to do 🤷🏽‍♂️ and let us have it even though we didn’t have a clue. The fact that this time last week I was at Philip Hedley’s funeral made this visit to a show I workshopped over 20 years ago even more poignant.
I gotta say that Philip and Anna Scher did more for black and working class actors than anyone I know and their passing within months of each other is like a kick in the gut. 😔
Anyway back to the Nestor family night out. When we arrived, I was tempted to tell the children that this was where their mother fell in love with “daddy” but they ain’t old enough for that story yet 👅
On that, Boss-lady is getting out of control 😡
The children found it hilarious that a woman came and told my wife how she had inspired her and how fabulous she was and then just kinda nodded and grunted as she passed me. How the world has changed!
Anyway, I came on here to tell you about *Big*Life*   It’s billed as a Ska musical about the windrush generation.
It’s great fun, go and see it. Take the whole family and sing all of the songs. Tameka Empson is just glorious as Mrs Aphrodite but then she always is. Sorry the review wasn’t longer or better, it’s just that the train is nearly at the station. Have a wonderful and productive day 🧡
And I only had to flick the 10 year old once in the head #badman
