A Night Out to Remember
Every so often Mrs Nestor decides we need a “date night.” Now, I know better than to argue, so off we went to see The Harder They Come at Theatre Royal Stratford East.
What a night. From the moment we walked in, you could feel the energy. The audience was a beautiful mix of ages, backgrounds and vibes, all ready for a good time. The music hit, the lights came up, and within minutes we were both smiling like we’d been transported back in time.
I sang along to every tune. Couldn’t help it. As a fan of the original film, every song felt like a memory. The staging was brilliant, full of colour and spirit. I even caught myself thinking I could’ve helped out with some of the crubbing, but they managed just fine without me.
They did skip the film’s most famous line, “Hero can’t dead until the last reel done,” but that’s me nitpicking. The truth is, it was a fantastic night. The kind that reminds you how good it feels to get dressed up, step out, and enjoy something together.
And Mrs Nestor? She was glowing. Said it’s been a while since she’s seen me that happy. She might be right.
The Harder They Come has finished its run now, but what a way to spend an evening. Music, laughter and the best company I could ask for.
