Eating out

I’d heard a lot of noise concerning the Caribbean takeover at the Langham Hotel and was keen to find out what all the fuss was about

Our booking was early (6:30) and they allocated a two hour slot. I thought that was way too long as I was with my wife and we usually eat and go.We arrive ten minutes early and are immediately struck by the high standard of service, piano playing and incredibly striking pictures from someone whose designs we have at home https://instagram.com/carolinechinakwe?igshid=NzZlODBkYWE4Ng==

It wasn’t full and we were among the first customers to enjoy the new Christmas menu. I had been looking forward to the curried goat but 🤷🏽‍♂️ Pepper steak it was then.

By this time we had enjoyed the plantain crisps and the pianist had been replaced by some proper old skool music, designed to create a fitting backdrop to the new menu. The place was filling up nicely now too. Mrs Nestor had issues (she always does) because the vegan options aren’t clear and our waiter had to ask what was what.

The way it works is you order your starter, main meal and afters and you get a whole range of other stuff like coleslaw, rice and peas, plantain, roti and they even had the leaves of Brussels Sprouts. Normally badman doesn’t eat that foolishness but I gotta say, it was very nice 😊.  My pepper steak was fabulous. I don’t know what the #bosslady ordered but there wasn’t anything left 👅. I’d heard complaints about the quantities but, in truth, once you put it all together with the lovely jerk chicken I had for staters, it was ample. The concept has been so successful that it has been extended and we will deffo go back. As well as the food, I enjoyed that we were surrounded by an eclectic mix of people.

This was a fabulous experience in one of London’s most iconic venues. The Rum punch was gorgeous but too small. You’re gonna get brock (broke) before you get drunk.

My only gripe (and it is a personal one) was I would have loved to have seen at least one server of African origin.Meals start at £90 ppA tasty first date 🌟 Oh and we left at 8:25pm 😝
