The unspeakable!

Greetings, Queens and Kings!

One of the best things about hosting a show (with the freedom to explore) is that it often takes you out of your comfort zone. Last week, I invited a colleague into the studio after reading her story about how the sisterhood supported her when she unexpectedly came on!

I felt it was an important conversation to have, though it did make me feel a bit uneasy. Growing up, I never talked about periods or saw any products—though I was aware of Dr. White and his safety pin. As a young man, periods just seemed to get in the way (sometimes) I hope this conversation helped other “dinosaurs” like me realize things have changed! Though, they’re still mostly using blue dye to represent blood in those adverts🩸.

Then, a guest came in for a segment called “Trends at 12” where guests share three topics they’d like to discuss. We got to her first topic, and I honestly didn’t even care about the other two. She’s a registered disabled woman who wanted to talk about dating with a disability, and I found it fascinating.

She was adamant that her challenges didn’t stop her from having desires and needs that deserved to be met. She found the idea of dating within a “disabled pool” patronizing. I asked if she shared her disability status on dating apps before meeting someone, and she said sometimes. I mentioned that I thought most guys would want to know, and some of her experiences backed that up. I definitely feel like this is a topic I have to come back to, even though I can imagine it might feel like walking a tightrope. But I’m going for it!

I need your help, though. I can already see the backlash coming… “Eddie, you can’t ask that!”I don’t want to get cancelled 😠

Wishing you all a wonderful and productive day! 🥰
